The Basketball Manitoba Awards were held on Saturday, April 13, where two Virden Collegiate Institute students were on the game rosters.
Fiona Garcia played in the A, AA, AAA Girls Manitoba Graduating All-Star game and Finn Abel played in the A, AA, AAA, Boys Manitoba Graduating All-Star game. Both Finn and Fiona received the MVP award in their respective games.
Surrey Smith from Hamiota Collegiate and Natalie Eissner from Souris School also competed on teams at this prestigious event.
The games were held at Sport Manitoba Courts with a formal banquet following at the Alloway Hall at the Manitoba Museum in Winnipeg.
At the awards banquet Fiona went on to make the All-Manitoba team and won the Carl Ridd award for "excelling on the basketball court and in the classroom and being heavily involved in the community."
At the formal event the Manitoba Players of the Year, All-Manitoba Teams, Coaches of the Year, Carl Ridd, Mike Spack, Jim Bulloch, Ron Meyers, Donovan Gayle, Morris Glimcher and Lena Wenke Awards and other special recognition awards were presented.
