Miniota celebrates with Santa

Sunday evening, Dec. 10 Miniota Community turned out to see the Santa parade.

Our community extends sympathy to Murray and Joan Gurr and their family on the death of their brother-in-law Barry Kingdon at Minnedosa.

Congratulations to Addison Cousins for receiving a silver and bronze placing in a figure skating competition in Winnipeg and to Adrianna Cousins for her placing with two gold medallions.

It was a busy Christmas weekend at Miniota. This past Sunday the United Church held their White Gift service. Children brought forward bountiful gifts of knitted articles, toys and food items for the hampers.

The Rising Stars held a curling bonspiel at the rink throughout the day with young curlers coming from all over.

Valley Recreation sponsored crafts for the children in the afternoon and the UCW supplied cookies and hot chocolate for the young crafters. Santa was on hand for pictures with everyone. Thank you to Loree Gardham and her helpers for the amazing display set up for Santa.

The day concluded with the Christmas parade at 6 p.m.. Once again Santa hitched a ride on the Miniota Fire Truck and everyone enjoyed the floats from the fire trucks with lights blazing and horns blowing, to the loud float of young hockey players, to the business trucks and a farm semi all shining and lit up, to our Canada Post ladies Sonya, Sherry and Allison, to the Miniota United Church float with Christmas music, and of course no parade would be complete without a team of horses, and we are grateful to Sadie and Blair Gardham for bringing their team to town.

The children along the route loved collecting candies from many floats. The Christmas Spirit continued on as many took the opportunity to tour the town to view the beautiful light displays. Puts one in the festive spirit!

May we let our individual lights shine with kindness for all to see. “Go out into the world today and love the people you meet. Let your presence light new light in the hearts of others.” -Mother Teresa
