Oil Caps build for future

After a tough contest in the second round of playoffs, the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's Virden Oil Capitals are now focused on the future.

The team held its Comfort Inn and Suites Draft Eligible Camp this past weekend. About 60 young players showcased their skills and potential at Tundra Oil & Gas Place. The 2024 MJHL Draft will be held on June 2.

The team has also added to its roster with some recent signings. Forward Parker Rolston had nine goals and 24 points in 44 games last season for his hometown U18 AAA Winnipeg Thrashers. The 2006-born athlete was drafted by the Oil Caps in 2022.

Maddox Shindle already has some familiarity with the Oil Capitals. The Portage la Prairie product played two games with the team as an affiliate this past season. The 2006-born defenseman recorded seven goals and 23 points in 38 games for the U18 AAA Parkland Rangers this past winter.

Fellow defenceman Jonah Vanderhorst played for his hometown U18 AAA Winnipeg Wild in 2023-2024. He had six assists and six goals in 35 games. The 2007-born player’s rights were acquired in a trade from the Winnipeg Blizzard last September.
