Wallace-Woodworth says thank you

The rural municipaity celebrates Christmas and the end of 2023 with a banquet where municipal employees receive recognition as well.

Reeve Clayton Canart welcomed a smaller than usual crowd to the Rural Municipality of Wallace-Woodworth Christmas Holiday Banquet held in Elkhorn Elks’ Hall on Dec. 8. Rain and then a temperature drop left roads ice-covered. A number of guests did not hazard the trip.

Attending from the Virden area were emergency coordinators Mark Savy and Joe Frizzley. Reeve Canart thanked them and all first responders who provide safety service to residents of the municipality.

A fine repast, fresh and tasty was served by Bernice Kliever. This banquet is an opportunity to thank municipal staff for their “day in and day out work” said Canart. (To that point, a plate of dinner was saved for a grader operator who came late when he finally got off his machine.)

Denise Mayo and Ross Jay received 10 Years of Service recognition. However, five Years of Service recipients - Darcy Higginbotham and James Smith were not present to receive their awards, nor was 10-year recipient Kevin Wright.

Midway through the formalities a bulletin came to the Emergency coordinators that the Trans-Canada highway east of Virden was going to close.

Festivities were cut short to allow travellers to get home that evening.
