34 year-old man hit by train in Virden

On Aug. 24 at 1:30 a.m. police and ambulance responded to a report of a man being hit by a train at the Lyons Street crossing in Virden.

The 34 year-old man was seen by an eyewitness getting out of a vehicle which was stopped at the railroad crossing. He proceeded to go around the arms of the crossing, and could no longer be seen.

The eyewitness got out of his vehicle to look for the man, but could not see him, and thought the man had made it across the tracks.

The eyewitness returned to the scene minutes later, and  saw the ambulance and police at the tracks performing medical care to the man who had been hit by the train.

The man did not survive his injuries. The case has been deemed and accident, and is still under investigation.
