New reporter Carrie Williams comes to Virden Empire-Advance staff as a reporter based near Oak Lake. She has been heard around the office saying, “I really like my job,” and her flood of stories and photos confirm that fact.

Carrie and her husband Dale Williams are rural residents of the RM of Sifton, having returned from Alida SK. last summer.

She graduated from Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) a number of years ago and worked at The Carnduff Gazette, where she filled a number of roles including layout and design, as well as reporting and photographer.

Williams’ broad experience - from her first job as a bar maid, then mother, wife, heavy equipment operator in the oil field, wedding photographer,  as well as several years previously in the newspaper business - has primed her for her Virden reporting assignment.

Williams has a love of gardening and even food processing, growing her own vegetables for canning. “That’s why I like gardening, because I like having it over the winter,” she says with a grin.

Behind the lens of a camera, she loves “capturing the moment” in wildlife photography, and says, “I like the beauty of wildlife.”

She also appreciates the preciousness of childhood, noting “they grow up fast”.

This artistic lady favours the colour purple. She appreciates a good game of hockey and has a companion mare as well as dogs. A massive Newfoundlander and a Collie cross are her dog-best friends, rounding out the Williams’ household.

Liking her rural Oak Lake lifestyle, and with a daughter nearby in Virden, Williams has settled right in. She enjoyed participating in the community life at Alida, using her photography and design skills in particular, for fundraiser projects and the like. Williams hopes she can continue that trend in her new community.
