Coming: Southwest Business & Entrepreneur Expo

Registration now open for Virden event in Feb.

Re-hydrate your business or business ideas at the upcoming Southwest Business & Entrepreneur Expo, being held Wednesday, Feb. 7.

This is planned as a one-stop shop for business and entrepreneurship needs with resources available for all stages of the business life-cycle, all under one roof at Tundra Oil & Gas Place in Virden.

The goal of this expo is to attract and support new and existing entrepreneurs in the southwest region. “The expo will provide an opportunity to new and existing business persons to learn and network,” stated Chairperson Tanis Chalmers.

Chalmers is the Manager of Economic Development, RM of Pipestone. She says, “Learning sessions from industry experts will take place throughout the day to provide innovative ideas and tools to succeed in the competitive business environment.”

The sessions include but are not limited to: Innovation, Rural Entrepreneurial Success, Going Global, Creating a Loyal Customer Base, and Introduction to International Trade.

Tradeshow

The tradeshow area will provide a unique experience by offering business resources at your fingertips. No need to go through hoops to discover what resources are available to rural business, the tradeshow will offer a one-stop shop for all your business needs.

For this event, start-up entrepreneurs and existing businesses looking to expand can register for the Business Pitch Session.

“The committee has over $5,000 in cash prizes available, and we are securing new cash prizes as we get closer to the event,” stated Chalmers.

Registration

Registration for this portion of the event is happening now. A limited number of business persons will have the opportunity to present to a panel of expert judges with a chance to win cash. Successful pitch entries will be notified by January 24. The successful entries also receive, free of charge, tradeshow space to promote their business.

The communities of the RMs of Souris-Glenwood, Pipestone, Wallace-Woodworth, Sifton, Deloraine-Winchester, the Municipality of Grassland, Towns of Melita and Virden, with Virden Skills Training Inc., have come together to organize and facilitate the SW Business & Entrepreneurship Expo.

Southwest Business & Entrepreneur Expo has a Facebook page where updates will be posted. At Virden Skills Training Inc., Peggy Foy is taking registrations; and answering questions.
