New restaurant coming to Alex Hotel

Oct. 1 will be the grand opening day for “Papa’s Place Family Restaurant” in the Alexander Hotel located on the corner of Nelson St. and Sixth Ave in Virden.

Oct. 1 will be the grand opening day for “Papa’s Place Family Restaurant” in the Alexander Hotel located on the corner of Nelson St. and Sixth Ave in Virden.

The restaurant will be run by Michelle and Allen Chapman who live on an acreage west of Virden. The couple currently manages the Oak Island Creemee and the store at Oak Lake Beach.

The Chapman’s will employ over half a dozen staff, including themselves. Michelle says, “We love to cook.”

The new restaurant boasts a menu of all home-cooked style meals for breakfast, lunch, and supper; consisting of everything from soups, chicken wings, burgers to steaks. Daily specials for all three meal-times will also be offered at competitive prices.

Papa’s Place Family Restaurant will be open from Tuesdays through Sundays, and closed on Mondays. Hours will be 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with extended -hours on Friday and Saturday nights.

The restaurant has 36 seats, with overflow seating available in the bar. Patrons in the bar will have access to the full menu and specials, and take-out will be also be offered.

The new restaurant will have free coffee from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. for their grand opening on Oct. 1.

The Oak Lake Creemee fall hours, until closing day Sept. 15, will be Sunday – Thursday noon to eight; Friday and Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. with store hours being 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.; and the holiday Monday will be noon to 8:00 p.m.
