The TransCanada highway west-bound was closed for three hours early Monday morning due to a semi-truck that caught fire. Wallace District Fire Department fought the blaze.

Elkhorn firefighters were paged out at 4:45 a.m. to a semi trailer that was on fire west of Elkhorn. Virden firefighters were called to assist. In all, 16 firefighters with five trucks fought the blaze.

The semi with a cargo of food products caught fire above the rear trailer wheels due to overheated brake says Fire Chief Brad Yochim.

The driver was able to disconnect the truck from the trailer. Firefighters had assistance from a wheeled loader provided by Elkhorn’s Tutthill Construction.

The trailers’ contents included frozen food such as pizzas, meat pies, muffins and bread.
