Annual plant sale
Garden club
Ria Cameron is ready to bag up a plant sale, Friday, may 19 at the Virden Garden Club spring sale and luncheon.

Between 15 and 20 members of Virden Garden Club held their spring plant sale and noon lunch with perennials and annual bedding plants on offer, Friday, May 19.

Lunch was served in the Lions Hall; a silent auction and a draw for a grocery hamper rounded out the club’s fundraiser.

The club meets monthly, taking a break in January, February and March; the club’s annual flower show takes place in Virden, in August.

Virden Garden Club has participants from areas surrounding Virden including Elkhorn, Miniota area,  well as Pipestone.

New members are always welcome. “And, I think there are people interested,” said club president Brenda Cameron.

“We’re hoping to do the garden tours again this year. And you can’t plan that too far ahead because people can’t commit until they see what they’ve got in the spring,” she said.

The club has guest speakers from time to time, for enrichment and often takes a tour or two in the year.

“What is on my mind is – the provincial weekend for Communities in Bloom Provincial awards are at the Peace Gardens this year. They have lots of courses offered, and speakers” stated Cameron, indicating this would be a great tour opportunity for the club.

Manitoba Communities in Bloom Conference and Awards take place at the International Peace Gardens, September 8 and 9.
