Virden Lions Club donating $2,500 to Shock Trauma Air Rescue Service (STARS) Friday, June 22 (l-r) Lion Don Angus, Lori Derksen representing STARS, and Lion President Bryan Hayward. Stars is a non-profit organization who responds via the STARS medically equipped helicopter to treat and transport patients, providing life-saving service when time is of the essence. According to 2018 records, STARS made one call to Virden, however some Virden patients are transported to Brandon before STARS becomes involved. These are listed as Brandon calls. STARS made calls to other areas in Westman throughout 2017/18: Hamiota – 5; Rivers – 1; Souris – 1; Arrow River – 1; and Sioux Valley – 1.
