Virden youth soccer teams undefeated

Virden Youth Soccer teams, Grades 1-2 and Grades 5-8, are undefeated this season. The two teams played in a jamboree at Boissevain on Jun. 3 and at Nesbitt on Jun. 17, and won both tournaments.

The Grades 3-4 team, with only seven players at Boissevain and nine at Nesbitt, won two out of three set games at the same tournaments.

Miranda Dryden-Careme, chair of the Virden Youth Soccer, says, “We’re looking for some stiffer competition.” She says the group has been exploring the possibility of creating a south regional league team.

Travelling teams are an option parents and players can choose to partake in. Currently, out of 226 players which make up 20 teams, there are three teams that travel to games. They are Grades 1-2 Team (U-8), Grades 3-4 Team (U-10), and Grades 5-8 Team (U-14). Most of the Virden Youth Soccer players are Kindergarten and under age, with 91 players in that category.

Soccer season started May 1 and ended Jun. 22. Practice days were Mondays and Thursdays. Players participated in practice and then a game each evening.
