In the last issue of the “Advance” Mr. J.G. Rattray bid good-bye to his readers and relinquished the editorial pen and reportorial pencil after two years of success in the journalistic field. The relations between the “Advance” and the “Empire” have been mostly friendly and in striking contrast to those in some other Manitoba towns and we appreciate the fact. We do not know what Mr. Rattray’s intentions are for the future, but will be pleased to learn that they are such as will permit him to remain a citizen of Virden. During his residence here he has taken a prominent place in a variety of circles all of which have for their object the promotion of the interests of the town. We bid welcome to the new proprietor, Mr. Newman, and trust that his success will be as great as his predecessor’s and that the same friendly relations between the two papers will continue.
