Miniota By Bev Peel

Congratulations from the Miniota Community to Brad and Stephanie Cole of Caronport, Sask. on the birth of Jack Samuel Reid Cole Jan. 10, 2020. Also Congratulations to grandparents Del and Pat Cole, the Friesens of Gladstone, Man. and Great Grandma Marg Taylor of Virden.

The Miniota rink was a very busy place Saturday with parents, grandparents and great grandparents watching the 8U and 6U hockey teams playing against the Hamiota teams. Sunday the 5U Miniota team played against Virden in spite of the cold temperatures and south wind.

The senior hockey game on Jan. 12 against Swan Valley was cancelled until the 25th of January.

Sympathy from the community goes out to the Sheane families on the passing of Eileen Sheane who was a resident of the Virden Nursing Home. Also to the families of Charlotte Gabrielle on her passing.

Christmas and New Years are a thing of the past; the long winter is ahead of us.

It is nice to see our Common Room has become more of a game room. Residents are beginning to spend evenings playing cards or Shuffleboard or Scrabble, etc. A Shuffleboard tournament is in the offing.

Art and Louise Rause have enjoyed visitors lately. Art’s brother Ernie Rause of Cochrane, Alta spent an overnight with them on Sunday, Jan. 5. Then on Jan. 9 a nephew, Johnny Rause of Weyburn, Sask. was over for a visit.

Marlene Balzar was away to Winnipeg on Saturday, Jan. 11, attending a family funeral.

Helen Martens booked Sunday, Jan. 12 for a Martens Christmas Birthday celebration. Brother-in-law John Martens’ 92nd birthday was celebrated. A big part of the Martens family was present for this special occasion, coming from Winnipeg, northern Sask., Brandon, MacGregor and local areas.

Quote for the Day: “You don’t always need a plan. Sometimes you just need to breathe, trust, let go and see what happens.”
