The official list of candidates running in the federal election is now finalized and in Brandon-Souris the number has doubled over the previous federal election.

The official list of candidates running in the federal election is now finalized and in Brandon-Souris the number has doubled over the previous federal election.

In 2015, only four people vied for the seat; in 2019, there are eight candidates including six who represent official parties and two independents.

Brandon University chair of political science Kelly Saunders was asked by the Brandon Sun why the number of candidates is so large in this riding, this election.

"We are seeing a lot more over-volatility," she said. "Voters are a little frustrated, a little unhappy in terms of the ways in which politics is unfolding and some of the choices that we might have and that’s why we’re seeing things like decreased voter turnout."
