This is an example of the cards of encouragement sent by Goulter school students to residents of Evergreen Place.

Miniota By Bev Peel

Several people are enjoying the Miniota Golf course as it opened on May 6, but you must phone ahead for a Tee-Time and keep your distance while playing.

Congratulations from the Miniota area to Robin Fleury and Breanne Deguire who had a baby boy recently. Also, congrats to Gloria Fleury and extended family.

Our Sincere Sympathy to Heather Sheane, Michelle, Terry, Murray, Tracey and Grandchildren and extended family in the passing on May 13, of Ralph Sheane - husband, father and grandfather. Thinking of you all and his friends at this time when no one can be together because of theCOVID-19.

Bob Davidson also passed away May 13 at Moosomin, Sask. Our condolences to his wife Shirley Davidson, son Tod and Michelle, daughter Carla Lee and Don and all the grandchildren. Bob and Shirley camped at the Miniota Golf Club camp grounds and golfed with many friends there, and took in many dances with other friends.

May 16, our first perfect day of 22 degrees and no wind brought some seniors out with the Happy Birthday Banners and surprised five birthday people! Travelling by car to wish Larry Walker, Delbert Cole, Shirley Strachan, Lee Reid, Sandra Armitage and Reenie Armitage a very Happy Birthday!

More summer activities are cut as the Miniota Community Centre has decided to cancel the 2020 Shirtsleeve Classic. This popular event drew curlers and golfers to Miniota. They plan to be back in 2021.

Evergreen Place By Helen Martens

Have you noticed how time flies?

I asked someone yesterday, what is time? How do you explain time? Time is a created thing. Time is the most valuable thing a man can spend. It is our most precious resource. This came out of our discussion … on time. We liked the statement a wise man had said, “A man who dares to waste an hour of time has not discovered the value of life.” A word of encouragement on the subject of time: Time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time. Since lost time can never be found again, on with the report.

Many residents here have small garden plots. Some are done seeding and planting, while some are still in the planning stage. One lady says she never puts out bedding plants till after June 6. When asked why she says because that’s how my mother always did it. We may still have a frosty night in May, so that’s a safe bet.

A bit of history: May 18 was Victoria Day. We celebrate it in honor of Queen Victoria who acted as a unifying influence to Canada’s provinces. It was declared a Canadian holiday in 1845. When Queen Victoria died in 1901 Canada’s parliament officially named the holiday Victoria Day.

Last week’s Empire-Advance had a good article on Car Care Council. It agreed with what my son advised me. So, if you see a maroon coloured Montana van driving along your street, it’s because I heed this good advice. I do my van a favour by taking it on the highway for a good work-out once a week.

We have an area outside with benches and lawn chairs which are being enjoyed now in this warm weather. Hats are advised to be worn by those with sensitive skin. Social distancing is not forgotten.

With hair dressers being back at work, we now see some well-groomed residents.

The May birthdays are Louise Rouse, Steve Kotylak and Helen Martens.

Every spring our screened-in porch gets a cleaning. The chairs are taken out and washed, the screens are hosed down. All is put back into place.

Thank you to the Goulter School students for the encouraging hand written cards. They were beautifully done and we hope you are keeping your chins up, keeping up with your school work and keeping safe.

Quote for the Day:

“At the end of the day, what really matters is that your loved ones are safe, you’ve done your best and that you’re thankful for what you have.”
