Miniota senior turning 100, Kenton holds market

Miniota By Bev Peel

Sunday, Sept. 15, family and friends gathered at the Elkwood Manor in Elkhorn to celebrate Lily Bowles 100th Birthday. Special greetings were received from the Queen, Prime Minister and other dignitaries. Prairie View Municipality Reeve Linda Clark brought greetings from Miniota and the Municipality of Prairie View where Lily has lived for her entire life.

The afternoon was spent visiting over birthday cupcakes and coffee and some of the residents also attended. Dorinda Stamford and her siblings helped Lily organize the wonderful day which was 30 degrees. All the Lloyd and Margaret Bowles family were also in attendance, plus many other family members, relatives and friends from near and far. It concluded with a photo of her three siblings, Ted Stamford, Regina, Sask., Mabel Boyce, Leduc, Alta. and Enid Cox, Brandon, Man. The highlight of Lily's day was a picture of her on her great nephews Harley Davidsons bike. Congratulations Lily and all the best in the future!

The Woodworth Senior Services held their Annual Variety Market and Barbecue on Sept. 12 from 5-7 pm. in the Kenton fire hall. There was produce, baking, plants and crafts for sale. The Kenton Co-op/Hardware provided the barbecue for the event.

The WSS board members and Karen Anderson-WSS Resource Coordinator appreciated the support from the community which included volunteers from Woodworth (Kenton) Fire Department, Valleyview Co-op and their staff, residents who helped set up, donations of produce and baking, the vendors and all who attended. The proceeds will support the WSS events and programs during the next year.

Watch for upcoming WSS events and the Flu Clinic in October. Submitted by Karen Anderson
