Arts Mosaic, for the month of July, is hosting artists and friends Bev Karnes and Lesly Moffitt. Together the duo put on a beautiful exhibit of prairie theme art called “Hope and a Prairie”.

Karnes paints with oils, water colours, and does scratch art, mixed media, and most recently soft pastels. She is one of the only soft pastel artists in the area. Karnes likes to get up close and personal with her subject matter and keeps backgrounds simple and unobtrusive.

Collage mixed media art gives Karnes a nice balance to the more intense portrait painting. She says, “Tearing, gluing, and assembling different papers, stamping, stenciling, and embellishing art is time consuming and messy, but fun.” Karnes does life-like portraits of animals, and landscape scenes.

Lesley Moffitt, an Oak Lake Beach resident, uses a variety of artistic talents in her fabric art. “It incorporates so many different arts into one piece,” says Moffitt.

Fabric art is painting onto fabric instead of onto a canvass. The painting’s details are then embellished with a variety of needle felting, beading, embroidery, and machine quilting. The final product is a colourful 3D image. Her work pops off the fabric canvas.

The exhibit will run for the month of July at Arts Mosaic, located at 425 6th Ave. South. Many of the art pieces are available for sale.
