Brinna Tough, from Virden, has been designing jewelry for over 15 years, and has her own business of facebook called “Jewelry By Brinna. She says she designs a little bit of everything. Tough started out at thirteen on her cousins bead loom, and has taught herself various techniques through books, friends, and the internet.

When Micheal’s store in Brandon first opened, Tough entered a Grand Opening contest . Winning the contest she received a shopping spree for over $300. She says that’s when she really got going with her jewelry designing.

Tough’s jewelry is made entirely from natural elements such as glass, wood, gemstones, leather, and metals like silver or gold. There is no plastic in any of the jewelry designed by Tough. All of her pieces are made with supplies that she purchases from an arts and craft store called Shakti in Winnipeg.

Tough enjoys creating  traditional loom seed beaded, hand hammered metal, and gemstone necklaces and bracelets. One piece of jewelry can take anywhere from half an hour to up to 80 hours for the more elaborate seed beaded necklaces. “I do it because I love doing it, not for making money,” says Tough.

Most of Tough’s jewelry is sold online through her facebook page at

Tough has been approached by management at the Gopher Creek Coffee Company in Virden to treach and display her work. She will be teaching jewelry design classes in the near future at Arts Moasaic as well.Brinna Tough wearing a necklace she designed. She has been designing jewelry in Virden for over 15 years.
