Love That Fiddle

“[The Aud] is a beautiful theatre and a nice historic building with great sound and great visibility. I remember that the crowd was very responsive and of course anywhere in Manitoba they love their fiddle music.

The Royal Purple proudly present that Renowned Canadian Fiddle Champion Scott Woods and his band Love That Fiddle tour will be coming to Virden Aud Theatre, Sunday, May 15. This tour symbolizes the magic of the fiddle and simpler times with traditional country, western swing and gospel songs, family humor and of course Scott’s famous trick fiddling – somersaults and walking on a barrel while fiddling. Woods said, “For those who have seen our shows in the past I do this routine where I do some tricks – I play behind my back with my fiddle I walk on a barrel while I am playing and I do a front running somersault and people often ask if I am still doing that and the answer is yes, I am and that is one carry over from show to show.”

On this unique tour, for the first time since 2009, Wood’s sister will be joining him. Kendra (Woods) Norris is a multiinstrumentalist; won the Canadian Duet Fiddle Championship title three times with her brother as well as several solo wins in various classes. Woods said, “Every year we come across the country and every year we do a brand new show. So, some folks may have seen us in another town we have played at the Aud, about six years ago last time we played in Virden. They are going to see a completely different show a completely different line of musicians and tunes we build our shows to be a variety show for the general public. It’s a fiddle based show but you don’t have to be a fiddle fan or country music fan to come to our shows and enjoy it we purposely build it as a variety show something for everyone.” Also, onstage is Canadian Country Music Award Winner and Guitar Player of the Year, Steve Piticco, Upright Bass Player and Vocalist Gary Boles, drummer Wes Dymond, and last but certainly not least, Patrick Linton will be gracing the stage with his championship step dancing.

“We have been on the road for about a month with this show now, and it has been very well received.” Woods said, “Everyone says it’s one of the best shows we have ever put together. So, we are very proud of it and we are looking forward to it.”
