Production the result of a “perfect storm”

Emily Cochrane (r) was matriarch Morticia Addams who clashes with a snobby visitor played by Diana Pringle (c).

Emily Cochrane pulled out all the stops in her portrayal of Morticia Addams in VCI’s production of the musical comedy, The Addams Family, which ran for three days last week at the Aud Theatre.

Dane Leslie as her husband Gomez made up for his lack of girth with his larger-than-life acting and singing talent, most recently on display in Shrek as Lord Farquaad.

About 50 actors breathed life into a story line that, admittedly, not everyone was familiar with if they didn’t see the original TV show. Catchy tunes and lyrics, along with sharp comedic timing, made up for that.

Director Michelle Chyzyk’s voice was full of pride for her team on stage and backstage. She said representatives from Rainbow Stage were in the audience and were “astounded” by the quality of the production.

Chyzyk said, “We have the perfect storm here in Virden making this possible: the Costume Closet, Dean Munchinsky (assistant director), Thomas Humphries (technical director), all the volunteers, and the Aud itself.”
