240 teachers from across Western Manitoba will converge on Virden Collegiate for a technology education conference on Friday, Feb. 16.
Build Your Teaching Experience (BYTE) is the largest event in the province to focus on tech for K-12 classrooms.
Presenters will hold workshops throughout the day on dozens of topics that delve into how students can use technology for learning and how teachers can help them get there.
For example, Virden music teacher Janet Yochim is scheduled to present “Using iPads in the Music Classroom”. The session will show how educators can guide students to create music using their iPads.
Coding bots and 3D printing
Eleni Galatsanou Tellidis will help participants explore ways to use small robots in the classroom. The session notes say, “More and more educational robot kits are becoming available that allow teaching coding and robotics in a fun, engaging way.”
Other sessions on the agenda will discuss 3D printing in education and how to make stop-motion videos using Stikbot Storytelling.
Keynote speakers Devon Caldwell and Leah Obach are scheduled to kick off the BYTE conference Friday morning with their talk “Inspiring Collaboration, Creativity and Curiosity in Education.”
It’s the first time the BYTE conference has come to Virden. In past years, BYTE has been held in the communities of Forrest, Minnedosa, Portage la Prairie, Neepawa and Brandon.
