Bears football update

The Virden Golden Bears took on the Moosomin Generals in a Rural Manitoba Football League Semi-Final

The semi-final  match for the Murray Black Cup was played in Virden on Saturday, Nov. 6.
It was a close game with Moosomin winning 30 to 26. The Generals got out to an early lead and then the Bears slowly clawed their way back.  The weather was perfect so Moosomin's passing attack was very effective.  Scoring the Bears 4 touchdowns were Keagan Shiels with 2 rushing touchdowns and Lincoln Shiels with 2 receiving touchdowns.
This concluded our season.  Overall record was 1 win and 6 loses.  Improvement was apparent throughout the year as we were a very young team which should help us in the years to come.
The following players were nominated for league awards:
Most Outstanding Offensive Player - Keagan Shiles
Most Outstanding Defensive Player - AJ Webb
Offensive Lineman - Colby Whittle
Defensive Lineman - Christian Lansing
Special Teams - Cohen Dryden
Rookie - Keagan Shiels
All of the above were also named to the all-star team which will hopefully be played next spring.  Extra players named to the all-star team were Gavin Podobni, Chase Forsyth, Michael Love and Cody Kasto.
League winners will be announced in an Online meeting once the league final has been played.  Due to the weather last weekend it was postponed.
