A tentative agreement has been reached between Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW). Prior to this agreement, CUPW adverted work disruption that was in the works twice but managed to be postponed each time.

Although, a tentative agreement has been reached, it still has to go through about 50,000 postal workers across the country before there are new contracts.

The agreements are based on two years opposed to the four years that were usually negotiated. The statement says, “Canada Post indicated that the two-year agreements would avoid a work disruption and allow more time to examine issues facing the Crown Corporation, including declining mail volumes and rising pension costs, and the best way to address them.”

There is currently no date set for the ratification vote. As for what this means for post offices, business will continue as usually across the country.
