Upcoming Virden tournament April 14th

Club West volleyball girls played a excellent round robin going 3-0 defeating  Cats South 25-11, 25-12; Carlyle 25-9, 25-17; and then Oxbow 25-15, 25-17.

In quarter finals, West defeated Cats Blue 25-14 and 25-16. They then went into the semis playing Cats South, again defeating them 25-9 and 25-14.

In the final against Oxbow, West fell short 25-22 in the first game; West dominated in their second game 25-15.

The third game was back and forth early but West just made too many mistakes. They fought back but couldn’t complete the comeback and lost their third game 15-12.

It was another good weekend for the girls but they realize they have to face much tougher competition over the next month to get up to where we can compete at the nationals in May.

Also, on the weekend, lead by Angel Fosty, Club West Smash lost a very tough semi-final to Oxbow 25-23 and 28-26. Smash has improved by leaps and bounds over the year and are now also a team to be reckoned with.

Looking ahead

Left for the girls is a much needed weekend off for 15s next weekend as the 14s are off to Dauphin.

After that, on April 14/15 the 16U West tournament is here in Virden.

The following weekend it’s off to Weyburn for a 17/18 tournament; then provincials in Winnipeg.

Last year Manitoba teams finished 1-2-3 at nationals in our category so we know we’re going to be in tough.
