Community celebrates Christmas in The Aud

The Aud Theatre Board gathered together a unique blend of talented performers.

Christmas at the Aud filled Virden’s theatre with the warmth of a community enjoying local talent on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 18.

Aud Board President Jean Anne Overand welcomed the crowd and she had an announcement. She explained that the board hopes to replace the 100-year-old seats and asked for responses through a short survey form handed out at the concert.

Michelle Chyzyk’s piano prelude on the theatre’s grand prepared the audience for more ... and emcee for the afternoon, Brad Hayward entertained between acts, reading from a Stuart McLean compilation, the famous Christmas episode, “Dave Cooks the Turkey”.  Hayward’s heart was in it, and he had the audience laughing.

The concert opened with Virden and District Youth Choir under the directions of Susan Martens on stage (Kelsey brown and Luke Munchinsky are also directors).

Virden Collegiate Chemistry teacher has musical talent. Dan Kristof with his guitar sang ‘White Christmas’.

Virden Collegiate Choir directed by Luke Munchinsky performed ‘A Simple Stable’ and ‘Jingle Bell Fantasy’.

The youngest performer, Daphne Holleman flawlessly recited ‘Help Wanted’.

In an exciting performance, Paige Rampton tap danced to ‘You Make it Feel Like Christmas/Run Run Rudolph’.

Recently from Cuba, music teacher Marieles Fernandes, and accompanied by Michelle Chyzyk, thrilled the audience with ‘Where Are You Christmas?’

The poignant ‘Mary Did You Know’ was performed by the Klassen Family, Cheryl and Juliana (John and Rhett couldn’t make it).

Carol of the Bells / Sing We Now of Christmas and Walking in a Winter Wonderland was the finishing performance by the group ‘Known’.

The performers returned to the stage and led the community singalong finishing with ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’.
