On the afternoon of May 25, Oak Lake Community School auditorium was filled with compassionate and enthusiastic youth. Student council, the WE Day group (WE Organization inspires and empowers youth to make a positive difference within their community and globally) with the help of teachers, hosted a fundraiser to raise donations for Chase Logeot and his family. The students put the fun in fundraiser.

Chase is a kindergarten student at Oak Lake Community School, and was diagnosed with leukemia in 2015. He is in the maintenance stage of his treatment, which includes daily medication, two-day stays in Winnipeg every 20 days, and much more ongoing treatment. Medications are covered by the government. However, travel, hotel and other expenses are not covered.

Students held a divisional fundraiser last year for Chase to help with expenses. This year, the fundraiser was kept in-house. A hotdog sale at lunch, a floor hockey tournament and cake-walk were held throughout the afternoon.

Gina, Chase’s mom, said, “Most people that don’t know Chase is sick, would not know it by looking at him.” The family greatly appreciates donations and support from the community and says they have helped greatly with treatment expenses for their son. Oak Lake Community School accepts donations for Chase and his family on an ongoing basis.
