Virden’s Tristen Cross played a role as the Simon Fraser University men’s hockey team repeated as the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League champions.
The SFU Red Leafs defeated Nanaimo’s Vancouver Island University, 2-0, in the championship series. The Vancouver area school squad beat the Mariners 7-1 and 5-2.
The son of Rick and Donna Cross scored in SFU’s game one victory. During the season, the defenceman had three goals and 17 points in 16 games as he helped the Red Leafs post a league-best 19-1-0-0 record.
