When Christine Cross and Cathy Coulter first conceived of hosting a Death Café in Virden, they didn’t know if anyone would be interested in casual conversations about death and dying. But the 20 spaces filled up so fast and the evening was such a hit that three more Death Cafés have been scheduled in the area:

Nov. 15 – Reston, 7 p.m., Dennis County Cafe

Nov. 22 – Elkhorn, 7 p.m., The Creamee

Dec. 6 – Virden, 7 p.m., Gopher Creek Coffee Company

Cross says the feedback after the first Death Café in October was very encouraging. “The evening was described as relaxing, fulfilling, and interesting. Everyone in attendance left saying that they want to come to another Death Café again!”

At the first café, small groups of four gathered around tables at the coffee house chatting casually while enjoying coffee and cake. The conversation was animated and wide-ranging, with no fixed agenda or rules.
