Demolition Derby Action

The Demolition Derby always draws a big crowd and this cool breezy Sunday, August 16, was no exception. For some, it is the highlight of the weekend.

The Demolition Derby always draws a big crowd and this cool breezy Sunday, August 16, was no exception. For some, it is the highlight of the weekend.

Derby commitee member Candice Mclauchlan noted that although there were fewer entries than last year, it was a lot of fun, with “more camaraderie, demonstrated by the fact that they held the Mechanics heat.” Without a sponsor for the Mechanics heat, competitors put together a pot and ran it.

With mufflerless motors roaring, there was smoke, dust, and a winning car to make the last hit in each of eight heats.

Originally, a V6 heat was on the bill, but Rick Hayward had no competitors until another car entered that afternoon. This became an intermission show, competing for the entry fees.

Powder Puff ladies event was second last; following that, the Mechanics’ heat on the end of the program was one of the most exciting events.

At least 70 volunteers make this event possible. Wallace District Fire Department was on hand for the entire event as well.
