Dog attack sends woman to hospital

Police investigate multiple dog attack at Waywayseecappo First Nations

Waywayseecappo First Nation: On Feb. 24, around 4:00 a.m., a 22-year-old woman from Waywayseecappo First Nation was walking alone on Procure Road in the community when she was attacked by a group of dogs. The victim’s clothing was ripped away and she sustained numerous dog bites. The victim was able to scream for help at which time other community members came to her aid and chased the dogs away.

The victim was transported to Russell Health Care in Russell, Man. where she was admitted for her injuries. She is currently in stable condition.

On Feb. 25, Waywayseecappo First Nation Safety Officers (WFNSO) along with MFNPS officers attended a residence in the community where three of the dogs responsible for the attack were located. WFNSO seized two dogs without incident but had to put the other dog down.

This incident is still under investigation.
