Elkhorn RCL Student Awards

Every year for many years the Royal Canadian Legion has held its annual literary and poster contest for school students to help promote awareness of Remembrance Day and the sacrifices made by Canadian men and women in times of war and peace.

Every year for many years the Royal Canadian Legion has held its annual literary and poster contest for school students to help promote awareness of Remembrance Day and the sacrifices made by Canadian men and women in times of war and peace.

This year students at Elkhorn School and Plainview Hutterite Colony School made a very good showing at the Branch level, the zone level and some going on to the District level for further judging.

Presentations were given out by Elkhorn Legion Past President, Ed Clayton who said, "The Legion was very pleased with the student participation and the quality of the work, to remember the service of our armed forces in the past and today.”

At Elkhorn School, awards were given out to Gabriella Sisson -second place senior essay; Kiley Kalyniak - second place junior poem; Lucas Baer -second place junior black and white poster; and Foxx McColl - first place junior essay.

At Plainview Colony School, Kaylyn Waldner - second place junior color poster; and Jayda Waldner – first place for colored primary poster. 

Mr. Michelle Shaw, Principal of the Colony school said, “I am very pleased with the efforts of the students, and next year, hope to enter some essays and poetic pieces."
