Doing what you like is freedom, liking what you do is happiness!

Hello everyone. Aug. 8th was called National Zucchini Day - sneak some Zucchini onto your neighbour’s porch at night. If I had zucchini, I'd be happy to share. But I have one Champion tomato plant and it has yielded its first ripe tomato. I hope to sneak it over to my Champion friend. But, why not sneak a Zucchini Loaf to your neighbour? Here's a recipe you could try:

Zucchini Loaf

Mix these wet ingredients:

3 eggs beaten,

1/2 cup oil,

1/2 cup applesauce,

1 tsp. vanilla,

2 cups grated zucchini.

Mix these dry ingredients:

3 cups flour,

1 1/2 cups sugar,

1 tsp soda,

1 tsp baking powder,

1 tsp salt,

2 tsp cinnamon,

1/2 tsp each of nutmeg and cloves,

1 cup walnuts (optional).

Stir together the wet and dry ingredients. Fold in walnuts. Spoon batter into two greased bread pans. Bake 1 hr. at 350 degrees.

There you have it, one loaf for yourself and one for your neighbor's porch at night!

We have one birthday at Evergreen in August - Mike Campbell, on the 28th. The birthstone for August is peridot, which is known for its shimmering yellow-green colour and the peace and good luck it brings to the wearer. The birth flower for August is Gladiolus. It stands for sincerity and it symbolizes strength of character. Happy Birthday, Mike, from your friends at Evergreen.

We had a strange and kind of scary thing happening at Evergreen last Tuesday. The air exchanger in the building blew up, which caused the fire alarm with all the warning lights, inside and outside to go on. What a noise we had! Nikki, our manager was called and she came to turn off the alarm.

It didn't take long before the fire truck, ambulance and police were here to check. Many of us residents were outside by then, wondering what was happening. Before too long something had been done so it was safe to go back in. No one was hurt and there was no fire.

Harold and Lynda Spring’s granddaughter Cassandra and Jeff King were married on Saturday, the 6th. It had been a very unique, well-planned wedding. Harold said his mother from Rivers, at 100 years, was also able to attend!

Eileen Price spent four days with her son Floyd at Clear Lake last week.

A number of residents took in the concert at the park on Thursday, the 4th. A man's quartet and a mixed trio entertained us. The last concert of the season will be happening on Thursday, the 11th.

Quote of the Day:

"A gracious word may smooth the way,

A joyous word may light the day.

A timely word may lessen stress,

A loving word may heal and bless."
