2017 airport pancake breakfast

Planes could be heard buzzing around Virden area on Saturday morning, Jun. 17. The Virden Area Flying Club Inc. hosted their 9th Annual Pancake Breakfast at the Virden Regional Airport from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Pilots from all over flew in, as well as, many locals attended to enjoy a warm pancake breakfast with all the fixings. The breakfast was cooked by pilots, wives, and members of the flying club.

The breakfast promotes aviation and awareness of the airport and flying club in Virden.  The club currently has 13 family memberships; a family can be from two and up in size.

People attending the pancake breakfast, were given a plane ride if requested. Young passengers are encouraged, in hopes of increasing interest in flying.

The Virden Regional Airport is a vital part of the medical aspect of the community.  Stars, and air-ambulance services use the airport for timely, medical emergencies.

Money raised at the pancake breakfast will go towards continual upkeep of the airport, including the terminal building and fuel system.

Members of the Virden Area Flying Club Inc. are also currently discussing an airport improvement plan (to repair the airport tarmac and taxi turnaround pavement) with the Town of Virden.
