Frozen Junior breaks ice for Aud Theatre goers

Under Michelle Chyzyk’s direction the Virden Collegiate musical Frozen Junior came to life on the Aud stage

Just as the land of Arendelle was released from perpetual winter in the musical Frozen Junior, the Aud Theatre has also come back to life after two full Covid years of sitting empty, void of the hilarity and drama that has characterized theatre performances over the decades.

Indeed, it was as if a wicked spell was broken as the audience filed in and took their seats.

The words of the song, “For the first time in forever, the gates are opened wide,” expressed the freedom and participation our world’s been waiting for.

The Wednesday afternoon audience included community theatre fans, grandparents and parents, plus preschoolers dressed in charming fairytale gowns, in keeping with the Frozen theme.

The action on stage is beautiful, as are the costumed actors, every one of them, staged before lifelike projected sets where snowflakes drifted to the ground.

Princess and prince harmonies were thrilling, the red-headed princess threw a fantastic punch, Elsa was lovely, the quirky animated snowman didn’t melt away, love triumphs, and the right guy gets the girl.

With two performances Friday, go and see Frozen Junior if you haven’t. Find tickets through https://virdencollegiateperformingarts.eventbrite.ca/
