Got Mats? wins award

Got Mats? won the 2015 Brandon Chambers of Commerce Outstanding New Business Award. Got Mats? was also announced one of three businesses as a finalist of the 2015 Manitoba Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Small Business award.

To be considered a small business in Manitoba a company must have less than 30 employees.

Got Mats? Received the New Business Award at the end of March when they attended the Brandon Chamber of Commerce Awards Gala.

Eric Ducharme, president and co-owner of Got Mats?, stated in an email interview, “We were very honoured to get the recognition. There is no doubt that the award has been the catalyst to us being nominated for another award.”

The Manitoba Business Awards (MBIZ), which Got Mats? is a finalist,  have been around since 1983 by Manitoba Chambers of Commerce. The award started for recognition of outstanding businesses and individual achievement.

Ducharme stated, “We started something new in the province which has been exciting. We are glad and honored to represent Westman as one of many great companies in the area.” Got Mats has been located west of Elkhorn, near Virden since 2011.

According to the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce website, to be eligible for the award a business cannot enter for an award that they have been a recipient in the last three years. The business also has to have operated successfully for at least three years.

Ducharme mentioned, “A Brandon business (BDO Canada) had nominated us for the 2015 Outstanding New Business Award for the Brandon Chamber of Commerce. Then, the Brandon Chambers of Commerce nominated us for the Manitoba Chamber Manitoba Business awards.”

The general criteria all award recipients were evaluated on, which Virden Oilfield and Hybrid Mats achieved best, are sustained growth, contribution to employment in Manitoba in the past three years, employee relations/development, and community involvement.

Ducharme explained that the main focus for Got Mats?" is ground protection and safety with the use of access mats.  We have to protect things above and below the ground so people can work safely without harm to themselves or infrastructure.  Fiber optic lines, pipelines, etc. need to be protected as well  and we want to stabilize the ground so people can work safely above the ground in remote areas."

Keep your fingers crossed for such a prestigious company, as they will find out at the end of October if they take home the award!

“The nominations and award from the two Chambers respectively, have given our business a lot of positive exposure in the business community and we are very appreciative of the Finalist nomination from the Manitoba Chamber and the award we have received from the Brandon Chamber.”
