Gray tabbed for aboriginal hockey championships

Kirby Gray will play at the championships held in Winnipeg this May.

Elkhorn’s Kirby Gray will be helping Team Manitoba defend its home turf at the National Aboriginal Hockey Championships.

She has been selected to play for the Keystone Province’s female squad at the prestigious event that will be held in Winnipeg in May. A forward, Gray was third on the Yellowhead Chiefs U18 AAA team in points with 24 in as many games, as of Sunday. She was second in goals with 14. Earlier this season Chiefs assistant coach Sam Geekie praised the rookie’s work ethic, speed and goal scoring abilities.

Killarney’s Dawson Andries was selected to play for Team Manitoba’s male team. He was drafted by the Virden Oil Capitals in the 2020 Manitoba Junior Hockey League Draft and has committed to play for the team next season. Through 34 games this season, the forward had 35 points and 17 goals for the U18 AAA Southwest Cougars.

Both Gray and Andries are Metis from the Southwest Region.
