The Virden Oil Capitals forward Dylan Halliday is in his fourth and final season with the Manitoba Junior Hockey League club. He has already set a career high for goals in a season and is on pace to surpass his previous season best points total. Halliday wants to see the Oil Capitals do well.

“I’m incredibly motivated to try and make a push in this final stretch and end on a high note,” the Brandon product said.

As of Monday, Halliday had scored 20 goals in 32 games. That topped his previous career best of 15 in a season, which he posted in 50 games in 2019-2020. In that campaign, he also set a career-high with 34 points. With 30 points so far in 2021-2022, Halliday is just four short of that mark. What has allowed him to score more?

“I think it’s mainly just getting more of an opportunity in offensive situations and playing with top end skill guys every night,” he said.

Halliday enters the week third on the Oil Capitals in points – behind Braden Fischer’s 47 and recently acquired Nathan Driver’s 41. He also ranks third in goals with his 20 trailing only Driver’s 24 and Fischer’s 21. Halliday has had 10 multi-point games so far this season. Five times he has found the back of the net twice in the same contest.

“Dylan is exceptionally skilled,” Virden head coach Tyson Ramsey said. “He has an ability to think the game at a very high level and has a natural ability to score goals at every level he has played at.”

Halliday also impacts the Oil Capitals with his leadership. The 20-year-old is an assistant captain.

“Dylan is a leader by example and brings a calming and intelligent voice in the dressing room,” Ramsey said. “He is a guy that our players, young and old, gravitate towards and he has been a great Oil Capital. We are very fortunate to have had Dylan choose to play his junior hockey here.”

Halliday has enjoyed life in Virden. Last season he moved in with Dave and Lynette Jordan. He said they have been great to him.

Next season Halliday plans to study in his hometown at Brandon University. He is interested in physical therapy.

“I’ve experienced injuries in the past and I’m very interested in the whole rehabilitation process for athletes getting healthy again. And it would also be a nice way to stay around the sports community,” Halliday said.
