Humility brings freedom

Pastor’s pen

In our world where there's competition, rivalry, jealousy and envy, the Christian virtue of humility seems forgotten. Jesus in His teaching always reminds us to be humble in whatever situations and circumstances.

Pride misleads us; but humility leads us to a clearer vision in life and it brings peace and tranquility in our hearts. Big or small problems or any issues which seem hopeless can easily be solved or accepted if we take the road of humility.

Broken relationships are healed when we carry in our hearts that there is someone who is called a "wounded healer," Jesus Himself who humbly accepted even death to forgive and to reconcile us.

Our relationship with one another is strengthened and we can treat one another as "equals" when we give up and submit ourselves, that there's someone who is superior to us who created us from "nothing" and makes us become "something", very special to Him.

If all just believe that we are simply creatures, mortal beings and created from the dust; and are subject to death and that we are accountable to God who created us equally, then we can remain humble to God and to people.

We should accept that there are people who are more talented, gifted, religious, wise, wealthy, healthy, etc. than us. This reality should not make us envious and competitive. Rather, make us grateful to our Almighty God who blessed His people with different gifts in order to serve Him and to serve His people effectively in many different ways.

When we have humility, we can live freely, love tenderly and relate with others cheerfully.
