INNISFAIL – Easter is a time of celebration.

Innisfail churches are welcoming local residents to join them for services on Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

River of Life Pentecostal Assembly is holding its second annual Good Friday Cross Walk beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Innisfail Co-op Mall parking lot on March 30.

“There’s an invitation to all churches, whoever wants to participate in the cross walk,” said Gerald Bradbury, pastor. “We know there’s going to be a few from other churches.”

The walk route begins at the Co-op Mall and follows 50th Street (Main Street) to 50th Avenue, and from there across to 42nd Street and up to the church, he noted.

The event will take a maximum of 30 minutes and will be followed by music and worship at the church.

“It’s important to remember what Good Friday is all about and the reason why we celebrate Good Friday,” said Bradbury. “Good Friday is about the sacrifice that was made for all humanity. We are remembering what Christ did for us.

“It brings the story of Easter to life, into our culture of today,” he added, noting the positive feedback they received from local residents about last year’s event.

Other churches will also hold Good Friday and Easter Sunday services, including Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church at 3 p.m. on Good Friday and 10:30 a.m. Easter Sunday. Peace Lutheran Church in Innisfail will hold services at 10 a.m. on Good Friday and 9 a.m. Easter Sunday.

The Innisfail Alliance Church also welcomes local residents to celebrate Easter with them.

“We’re doing a Good Friday service at 10:30 a.m. at the church,” said Dave Wiebe, associate pastor. “On Easter Sunday we will have a pancake breakfast at 9:30 a.m. and then an Easter service at 11 a.m.

“Everyone is welcome to come. This is the centrepiece of our faith, remembering the death and resurrection of Jesus,” Wiebe concluded.
