Intoxicated Virden driver had a gun

During the week of Septe.27 to Oct. 3 the Westman RCMP dealt with 51 police activities at the following locations.

Sept. 28 -   Sioux Valley for a report of a vehicle in the ditch with a single occupant in the driver’s seat. The occupant showed several signs intoxication. She was therefore arrested for impaired operation of a conveyance. She was released on a future Court date.

Sept. 28 – Oak Lake Beach for a report that someone through a rock through the window of a residence. Mustard was poured inside the residence, ketchup was splattered on a sign outside. The investigation is ongoing.

Sept. 29 – Virden for a report that the water hydrant at the corner of King and Third Street was damaged. The damage was estimated to be approximately $15,000.00. It appeared as though the hydrant was struck by a vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.

Sept. 29 – Melita for a report that a 36-year-old Mother assaulted her 19-year-old daughter and her 15-year-old daughter with a Wi-Fi router. Subsequent to investigation, the mother was arrested for assault with a weapon. She was released on a future Court date on the condition she have no contact with the victims.

Sept. 30 – Sioux Valley for a report of a disturbance at a residence. Upon police arrival, it was learned that an intoxicated male had been in possession of several homemade weapons. Queries of the subject showed he was bound by a weapon prohibition due to previous criminal convictions. The accused is facing 12 weapons related offences, and was remanded into custody. No injuries were reported during this incident.

Sept. 30 – RM of Pipestone for a report that a truck with no licence plate stole a trailer with a skid steer. The victim found his trailer and skid steer in Saskatchewan. The investigation is ongoing.

Oct. 1 – Elkhorn for a report of a break and enter that occurred at the Gospel Fellowship Centre. The suspects caused some damage to the female washroom. Investigation is ongoing.

Oct. 3 – RCMP initiated a traffic stop in Virden. The vehicle driver showed signs of intoxication. He also had a firearm in the vehicle. The driver was arrested for impaired operation of as conveyance and careless use of a firearm. Breath samples of 160mg/100 ml and 140 mg/100 ml were provided. The vehicle driver was released on a future Court date. He also received a licence suspension and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

10 traffic enforcement actions were undertaken during this reporting period.

Westman Detachment is seeking people to be guards. There is no direct contact with any person being held in custody, but would involve monitoring people in police custody on a video screen.  Any training needed (First Aid/CPR) is provided. Please call the detachment for details.
