Intoxication leads to arrests

During the week of Aug. 15 to Aug. 21 the Westman RCMP responded to 85 police occurrences including the following patrols and dispatches:
Aug. 15 – to Sioux Valley for a report of a male with a large cut on his elbow. It was further reported that his injury was a result of being struck with a machete. The victim refused to provide a statement and denied knowing the person who cut him. He was transported to the hospital by ambulance for some stitches.
Aug. 16 – to a two-vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 1 near Virden. Subsequent to investigation, a ticket was issued to one of the drivers for proceeding through the intersection when unsafe.
Aug. 16 – to Sioux Valley for a report of an altercation at a residence. Upon police attending, it was determined that a domestic assault had occurred. Attempts are currently being made to locate the suspect.
Aug. 17 – to a residence in Sioux Valley for a report of several intoxicated youth refusing to leave a property. While on the phone with police, the caller advised the youth were leaving and going to bed.
Aug. 17 – to Sioux Valley for a report that Sioux Valley security members had been assaulted. Police attended and arrested a 22-year-old male for assault. The investigation is ongoing.
Aug. 20 – to a residence in Sioux Valley for a report of an intoxicated male trying to fight people. The intoxicated male departed the residence prior to police arrival.
Aug. 20 – to a local business in Virden for a report of an intoxicated female causing a disturbance. A 43-year-old female was arrested for mischief, she was released with a future Court date.
Aug. 20 – While conducting routine patrols in Virden in the morning, police observed two people sleeping inside the vestibule of a local business. When police spoke with them, they appeared to be very intoxicated and were in possession of open liquor. They were arrested under the intoxicated persons and detentions ACT and transported to the Virden detachment as they were too intoxicated to care for themselves. They were released later that afternoon when sober.
Aug. 20 – While conducting patrols in Virden, police observed an intoxicated male stumbling on King Street. He was also arrested under the intoxicated persons and detentions ACT as he was too intoxicated to care for himself. He was released later that day when sober.
Aug. 21 – RCMP were dispatched to Sioux Valley for a report of a robbery. It was reported that the victim was driving his scooter when a male pushed him off and stole it. The investigation is ongoing.
Westman RCMP also responded to two traffic collisions; 41 traffic enforcement actions were undertaken during this reporting period.
