Kennedy’s Journey - step by step toward home

Preparing for the future will mean some home renovations.

Terrence Crampain of Oak Lake has set up a fundraiser event for Kennedy Langevin this coming weekend. This two-day event will take place both March 25 and 26 at the Oak Lake Community Rink. Kennedy was seriously injured after a fall from her horse in July of last year.

“Kennedy is still in the Winnipeg hospital,” says Crampain. “I really don’t know too much about it, but I am close friends with her brother….”

Crampain adds that he and a couple buddies have gotten a team together and are holding a Rec Hockey Tournament at the Oak Lake rink. “We decided to put on this tournament to raise money for Kennedy’s cost to come home and upgrade the house,” says Crampain.

Accessibility upgrades and other modifications will be needed when the time comes for Kennedy to get back home.

“She continues to make progress,” says Jodi, Kennedy’s mom. “She’s working hard every day doing things from trying to touch my hand to pedaling a bike and everything in between.”

Jodi adds that it is still a really long road and with a TBI (traumatic brain injury) there is really no prognosis of damage or an estimate of time. The brain can continue to heal itself and make new pathways and every day she is relearning things.

Crampain says he has heard from a lot of companies in Virden who would like to make donations for raffle prizes for this event that is to take place this weekend. Kennedy’s three brothers and her family have plans to put a team in the tournament as well.

There are five teams coming for this weekend fundraiser. Along with the raffle tables and 50/50 draws, Crampain is hoping there will be a big turnout and with the help and generosity of everyone, the family can bring Kennedy home.
