Evergreen Place By Helen Martens

Hello everyone! The Paper Holiday is over, so I greet you again. Summer has finally come.

Brian Wilson reminds us: "Summer means happy times and good sunshine." The sunshine has been given to us but the happy times we must plan ourselves.

Evergreen residents have been busy these past weeks. Let me tell you about it.

Sherry Gompf of Edmonton visited with her mother Phyllis and other family members. Phyllis and Sherry also attended the Celebration of Life for Ina Slimmon on July 2, in the Oak Lake Community Hall.

Some enjoyable events since the last paper have been the fireworks on Canada Day, also we enjoyed the Canada Day parade moving past the Evergreen.

Eileen Price spent a few days with her son Floyd at Clear Lake. Irene Rowand joined the Rowand family gathering at Elkhorn last week.

I had the privilege and fun to join cousins and their families for their annual family gathering at Gerald and Elly Martens. For me, the highlight was the fish meal which my nephew Gordon and Lynn, of Ontario prepared for the 50 people gathered there.

My grandson, Steven, an avid fisherman, was fishing along the Pipestone creek west of Cromer. He heard a rustling behind him in the long grass. Turning around he saw a cougar following him and hissing at him. Thankfully, he made it back to the highway unharmed.

So far, we have had two concerts in the Victoria Park this summer. We, the residents who went, enjoyed the outdoors and the music, along with many others. The concerts will continue weekly on Thursdays, at 7:00 pm. It’s good place to meet friends whom you might not have seen in a while. I hope to see you there.

I enjoyed the evening at the Aud theatre when Jim Treliving was there.

We have two new residents at Evergreen. We want to welcome Shirley Strachan, who moved in from Miniota, and Carol Kotylak from Elkhorn. May it be a good home for you both.

Mark Gabrielle with his two cute Chihuahuas Roxy and Bobo, visited his mother Carol Gabrielle for a number of days.

Have a happy, safe summer.

Kenton WSS By Karen Anderson

On June 9, the regular foot clinic was held with 10 clients. The next foot clinic will be in seven weeks instead of six weeks due to the local fairs in the area.

GoSafe 2.0 lifeline was installed for a client on June 14. This is the latest model as it has no base unit/communicator. It only has a pendant and charger. Again, you need good cell service but it still is connected through a land line. There was a Father’s Day promotion so two months were free. The installation fee is $70 and the monthly fee is $69.95.

There was a COVID-19 vaccine clinic with Novavaccine also available in Virden on June 15. The Novavaccine has a different formula than Pfizer or Moderna. Vaccine Clinics for the fourth shot or second booster continue, and appointments are being made. There is a new virus, Norovirus that has GI symptoms and seems to be related to seafood. There is no vaccine available. Some confusion that it is a COVID-19 variant which it is not.

On June 19, Lenore W.I. held a Car Rally with food available for sale.

The Canada Day events at Kenton were well attended. This included a pancake breakfast, car rally and beef pit BBQ supper.

Posters were put up for Strawberry Picking at Grand Valley in Brandon first week in July. The cost is $20 for a 4L pail. Summer assistants at Hamiota Arts Centre oversee the event.

Sympathy to Irene Magatiaux from the residents on the passing of her brother. Also, sympathy to Gwen Charney and Audrey Watters for the passing of their sister Kay. Sympathy to Lucina Decroliere family for the passing of Lucina.

Joyce Heaman and Norma Millar of Bradwardine motored to Nipawin Sask. on July 5 for a few days with Marilyn Kinnear and Calvin Dion.

Troy, Catherine, Ben, Logan and Kennedy from Virden, as well as Gordon. Lisa, Melissa and Lucus were there as was Jason Sheane and friend Hanna from Winnipeg. There was 22 of us. It was so good to see them all.
