Renard exits the industry

Virden financial advisor Alex Renard has sold his investment planning firm, Keystone Wealth Management, to Harley McCormick.

Continuity

McCormick says the business name and much else will remain the same under his watch.

“When Alex made the decision to exit the industry,” he says, “we found a lot of similarities in the planning process and the types of investments we both put into clients’ portfolios.”

As a result, McCormick says not much will change at Keystone Wealth Management other than the face behind it, although he admits, “a transition like this poses risk from a trust standpoint.”

But he will have help, he says, fostering the trust and continuity that’s so important in financial services.

“Jody Couvier (Keystone’s executive assistant) has remained on board which will help ease both the clients’ and my transition, as she is the common thread to the past with her knowledge of the clients.”

“Where we belong”

McCormick was born and raised in Virden. After high school, he lived in several Canadian cities before deciding with his wife Ashlee to move back to Virden in 2010, “understanding that this was where we belonged.”

He’s been an insurance broker since 2003 and licensed in life insurance and investments since 2009. He completed Level 1 of his Certified Financial Planner training and intends to continue with the CFP program.

Alex Renard is also from Virden originally. He moved away but returned in 2012 to start his own company which eventually became Keystone Wealth Management.

For several years, he wrote a popular column called Money Matters for the Virden Empire-Advance.

Renard says he decided to transition out of his business to take an opportunity he felt was in the best interests of his family. “I’d like to thank my former clients for their trust through the years.”
