Wallace District Fire Department put out the call for Elkhorn and Virden Stations to attend the Kola landfill where a fire was out of control, Wednesday, June 12.
Kola is 25 Km south of Elkhorn and 32 Km west of Virden. A plume of foul smelling smoke drifted in a light breeze, mostly from the north. The black smoke could be seen from Virden.
Both stations took turns refilling their water tanks at the nearby Kola reservoir as they continued into the afternoon, pouring water on burning material.
No other property appeared to be threatened.
