On May 13, young rodeo athletes kicked off their spring season where we saw fast barrel runs and exciting bull rides! MHSRA (Manitoba High School Rodeo Association) is for High School and Junior High students. The Junior High division is Gr. 5 to 8 and High School is Gr. 9 to 12.

The Spring season started in Richer, Man. May 13 – 14. The following weekends they go to Rapid city (May 20 - 21), Gilbert Plains (May 26 - 28) and the last stop is the High School Finals in Oak Lake, June 2nd to 4th.

Then the season is over, but for the students who make Top 5, they will represent Manitoba at the Canadian High School Finals in Brandon Manitoba. Top 4 will get the opportunity to compete against the best in the world at the National High School Finals Rodeo. They will compete against Mexico, Australia, five Canadian provinces and 50 states for a world title.

At MHSRA you will see some VCI students competing. In the boys division you will see Laramie Collen (11) and Dawson Brown (9), competing in tie down roping and team roping events. This is Dawson’s rookie year at the high school level. He is currently leading as rookie of the year. In the girls division you will see Harley Hagen who is currently 5th in barrels. You will see many more young rodeo athletes at MHSRA.
