Congratulations to Keenan Lewis and Trisha Rowe of Winnipeg on the birth of their son Oaklan Jarod McAuley on Jan. 3, a little brother for Sophia. Congratulations to new grandparents Trevor and Marcie Lewis and uncles Connor and Aiden, and to great grandparents Linda Lewis of Moosomin, Sask.; and Bonnie and Ken Robbins, Rock Lake, Man.; and Ken Dunn, Stettler, Alta. 

A graveside service was held at the Arrow River cemetery for Donna Lynn Lelond, daughter of the late Russ and Joy Lelond. Lynn died on Jan. 10.  Sympathy is extended to her daughters Nicole, Rachelle and Christine and to her sister Shona Peel.

The U13 Elkhorn Miniota C-Hawks were successful against the Minnedosa team in playoffs and will be headed to provincials later this winter. Good luck C-Hawks!

The Miniota UCW held their annual meeting on Jan. 18 at the Miniota United Church with 12 members present. Annual reports were accepted and a budget set for 2023. Two fundraisers: a roast beef supper in April and a turkey supper in November were planned. Catering prices were set for this coming year. As well a committee will revamp group lists and the UCW will work with the ACW to plan the World Day of Prayer to be held on March 3.

Huge shoutout to the Miniota Community Centre for hosting a jam packed busy rink weekend with lots of good food and fellowship. Great volunteer support! The open bonspiel first draw was on  Friday evening with 12 rinks entered.

As well, the Elkhorn Miniota C-Hawks Seniors hosted the Rivers Jets on Friday evening with unfortunately a loss for our team.

Saturday saw the curling continue as well as the Skunks Hockey Tournament with four teams.  ‘A’ Side winner was Birtle over Miniota and ‘B’ Side winner was Elkhorn. A casino evening was held on Saturday night along with a delicious ham and perogy supper. Curling continued on Sunday and winners of the 2023 bonspiel were as follows: 1st Todd Brown, 2nd Loree Gardham, 3rd Nick Young, 4th Joan Gurr, 5th Dave Colli and 6th Jason Heaman.

As well the U11 Miniota hockey team had a game on Sunday afternoon and were defeated by the Minnedosa Salers. Great to see our rink a hopping!

The Miniota Community Centre was most pleased to receive a $10,000 grant from Tundra Oil & Gas in support of the ball diamonds upgrade and upgrades to the hockey and curling rinks.   Craig Lane of Tundra presented the cheque to MCC chair Jeff Poppel and secretary treasurer Anna Oliver. Thank you, Tundra, for your ongoing support to our community.

As well the Miniota Community Centre was one of the applicants chosen to receive funds this year from the Miniota and Area Foundation.  Chairperson of the foundation Del Cole presented the cheque to board member Courtney Muir.

Congratulations to Foster Couvier, Decklan Cottingham, Dylan Couvier, and Aiden Lewis who won the Zone curling champs at Hamiota making them eligible to head to high school provincials. Good luck at provincials!
