Moose ‘movie’ - right outside her Evergreen window

It was cold last week so Helen reflected on poetry, food and care for each other.

Evergreen Place By Helen Martens

"Who has seen the wind? Neither I nor you: But when the leaves hang trembling,

The wind is passing through.

Who has seen the wind? Neither you nor I. But when the trees bough down their heads,

The wind is passing by."

- Christina Rossetti

Environment Canada has again given us an extreme cold weather warning for this coming week. As I sit here writing it is -24 with wind chill -33. There's only a small chance of more snow, which sounds more encouraging. We've had a lot of wind these last weeks. We have seen the wind playing around with the snow.

The cold weather certainly has kept Evergreen residents indoors. Many have been watching the Olympics. I turned my TV on one day and I saw Alexa Scott just being introduced before she did the speed skating race. Interesting to see a hometown athlete competing at the Olympics. Congratulations Canada, on winning 26 medals at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Norway was first with 37 medals, Germany had 27, Canada 26, USA had 25, etc.

The moose must be hungry, not finding enough food in the bushes full of snow. One big moose went by my window on Saturday morning. I don't know what they'll find to eat here.

Michelle Gabrielle of Winnipeg came to visit her mom for a few days this past weekend.

Emmi Schneider went to her grandson Josh Schneider's wedding on Saturday, at T's Dining in Virden.

One day because of rain and icy streets and closed highways, the Homecare workers were not able to come to Evergreen. These workers are doing excellent work, and they work hard and our hats go off to them.

Vern and Margaret Rollo got stuck in the snow out in the country somewhere, and started walking for help. Margaret fell down, badly hurt. Vern got help and they were brought to the Virden hospital. Margaret had a fractured hip and had surgery in the Brandon hospital. Vern said the surgery went well and Margaret will be back in Virden hospital tomorrow. Margaret, we wish you a quick and complete recovery.

Margaret is known as the bread baker, baking every Monday morning, except today. I am putting in two quotes, hoping you will see them Margaret, wherever you are.

Quotes for the Day: " Bread is like the sun - it rises in the yeast and sets in the waist."  a Senior's paper.  "Good bread is the most fundamentally satisfying of all foods, and good bread with fresh butter, the greatest of feasts."  - James Beard
