Police attend hospital, send transient on his way

During this week Westman RCMP received a total of 59 calls for service which included 22 traffic related files, two mischiefs, three Mental Health Act, Break and Enter, two motor vehicle collisions and one assault.

Sept. 3  

Officers conducted patrols for drivers operating cell phones. Three drivers were stopped and charged $672 and issued 72-hour drivers licence suspensions for operating an electronic hand-held device.

RCMP were approaching the traffic lights at King Street and Highway 1 in Virden. RCMP had a green light and as they approached the intersection, they observed a semi-truck and trailer proceed through the intersection, running a red light. A traffic stop was conducted with the semi. Driver fined $203 for disobeying traffic control device.

RCMP received a dispatch of a disturbance in Sioux Valley Dakota Nation. RCMP attended the scene and learned a Domestic Assault had occurred. A male was arrested and transported to Virden RCMP. The male was released on an Undertaking with a November court date.

RCMP received a dispatch of a house fire in Sioux Valley Dakota Nation. RCMP attended, the fire department was already on scene. There were no occupants, the house was fully engulfed in flames.

Sept. 4

RCMP received a dispatch of a transient male individual going to the hospital asking for medications that are not prescribed to him while he travels west. He was denied the medication and asked to leave the hospital, but he returned and was arrested by police. He was held in cells overnight and released the next morning to continue traveling west.

Sept. 7

There was a report of stolen tires and rims valued at $500. An investigation is underway.

Sept. 9

RCMP were dispatched to a semi on fire. The original call came in as the driver and passenger were still inside truck. Police attended and located the driver and passenger safely outside the truck. The semi-tractor was disconnected from the trailer loaded with food which was fully engulfed in flames. The fire department attended. The trailer was towed, and no injuries were reported.

RCMP received a request from Brandon Police Service to assist in looking for two youth that were reported missing. RCMP conducted door knocks and located both missing youths. Brandon Police were notified, concluding RCMP involvement.

RCMP received a report of a weapon in Sioux Valley Dakota Nation. RCMP attended and spoke with a victim who stated no weapon was involved and refused to provide any further information. Out of concern for public safety, RCMP continued to investigate resulting in the arrest of a male. He was transported to Virden cells to hold overnight. A firearm was found and seized. The investigation continues.
